WiFi, network cable, PoE Powerline, CPL … here below a sample application that allows you to select the best connection type for your cameras based on the location of parts and places technical constraints: availability of electrical outlets, cable management, number and thickness of the walls for WiFi, etc:
CCTV, application example:
Choosing the type of connection of CCTV cameras:
The office is the “nerve center” in which lies the BOX INTERNET; INTERNET BOX exist on one or more RJ45 sockets on which will connect the CCTV cameras; if there is an outlet network available on your BOX, you can use a SWITCH which can extend the connection capabilities of your BOX.
1- Cable Connection:
Indoor CCTV camera is placed in this office; its proximity to the BOX INTERNET allows it to be easily and directly connected to it by a CABLE ETHERNET NETWORK.
The power of this camera can be done either by the mains adapter to connect a 220V outlet, either directly by the cable network by inserting between the cable and a BOX INJECTION PoE; of course, the camera must be compatible with this power supply by PoE.
2-Connection via WiFi:
Indoor CCTV camera is placed in the dining room; their configuration does not pass a network cable to the INTERNET BOX; the distance and the number of walls allow a connection WIFI allows us to free ourselves of a network cable; it is necessary all the same to have a 220v outlet nearby to supply the CCTV camera.
3-Connection PLC (Powerline)
An outdoor surveillance camera is placed at the rear of the house. This camera is connected via PLC (Powerline) thanks to a Powerline adapter placed at the output of BOX and connected to a power outlet, then to another Powerline adapter placed in the garage to an AC outlet, the camera, connected by a network cable to the Powerline adapter transmits images via existing circuit; the second Powerline adapter connected by a network cable to the BOX ‘fetches’ information and shipments to the BOX.
4-Cable Connection + PoE:
An outdoor surveillance camera is placed in front of the house; the proximity of the garage with the INTERNET BOX office and their configuration (can run a cable in the garage) used to connect the camera with a CABLE ETHERNET NETWORK. To simplify the connection and compensate for the lack of outlet near the camera, the power of this camera is done directly by the cable network by inserting between the cable and a BOX INJECTION PoE; obviously the external camera must be compatible with this power supply by PoE.
Depending on the size and configuration of the premises, it may be advisable to use a connection WiFi on an outdoor camera ; distance and the thickness of external walls significantly reduce the range of the WiFi signal and greatly increase the risk of loss of connection, especially for cameras with megapixel resolution, the importance of bandwidth (information sent) a heavy strain on computer network; to the extent possible, it is best to opt for the WiFi only indoor use.
Opt for the CPL is the ideal solution for outdoor cameras when a wired connection to the router or Box is not possible. (See Example 3 above).
How to power a PoE IP camera with a PLC network?
When your video camera is connected to your network via PLC adapters, it is necessary that the PoE injector is inserted between the camera and the adapter that connects the camera to the network.
How to connect multiple IP cameras on a PLC network?
When your CCTV cameras are connected to your network via PLC adapters, each camera must be equipped with its own PLC adapter; then simply installing a single PLC adapter near your Internet Box thus avoiding the use of a network switch; of course, will require that each PLC adapter connected to the camera to be recognized by the adapter located near the Internet Box.
